Oil on canvas.

• Since the 1970s, Hitzler has been depicting existential emotional worlds between death, suffering, and joy in his characteristic, spontaneously and impulsively written paintings.
• Powerful, colorful, and large-format, Hitzler has condensed signs and symbols into artistic abbreviations, placing them on the canvas like mysterious hieroglyphs.
• Rembrandt/Rubens/Titian: Franz Hitzler's painting is strongly influenced by the themes and motifs of old master history painting, whose existential statements he translates into a modern, almost abstract visual language.
• Hitzler studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1967 to 1972.
