Enclosed is a print of the work in black on sturdy handmade paper, date of origin unknown. [AR].

• Fascinating testimony to Pechstein's artistic creative process.
• Swiss diplomat Dr. August Ochsenbein was a friend of the artist.
• The small-format mythical creature is the only known bookplate by Pechstein today.
• According to G. Krüger's catalog of works, a colored print also exists
.

PROVENANCE: Private collection, Switzerland.

LITERATURE: Cf. Günter Krüger, Das druckgraphische Werk Max Pechsteins, Hamburg 1988, CR no. H 309 (color illu. of the colored print on p. 253).

The wooden block is in good to very good condition. There are two strips of transparent adhesive tape in the center of the reverse side. The print has horizontal and vertical crease marks and minor soiling. There are remnants of the same transparent adhesive tape on the upper and lower edges of the sheet and on the reverse side.
