Monogrammed, handwritten title and numbered in the printing block, as well as inscribed by Maria Marc “From the estate of Franz Marc, confirmed by Maria Marc.” On the reverse, inscribed again by Maria Marc “Estate of Franz Marc, confirmed by Maria Marc.”. One of probably 15 copies. On Japan paper. 20 x 25.8 cm (7.8 x 10.1 in). Sheet: 26,5 x 38,7 cm (10,23 x 14,96 in).
In a letter to Herwarth Walden dated August 23, 1912, Franz Marc describes the woodcut as an attempt to illustrate Else Lasker-Schüler's poem “Versöhnung” (Reconciliation). The artist also promises to send Walden the woodblock for his magazine “Der Sturm” as well as several prints. The woodcut actually adorns the cover of the weekly magazine in September 1912, Vol. III, Number 125/26. [MH].

In good condition. With tiny brown spots and two very small holes at the top center and bottom left edge of the page. Isolated, barely noticeable creases, slightly more noticeable in the lower corners.
