Signed and dated at the top center with the engraved date “19.2.78.” Signed and dated on the reverse, as well as typographically titled on a label, marked with the artist's name, “Freiburg,” with “Series X” and “Image No.” as well as “216” handwritten. 24 x 19 cm (9.4 x 7.4 in). [AW].
• From Peter Dreher's best-known series of works, “Tag um Tag guter Tag” (Day after day, good day).
• Starting in 1972, the artist painted an empty water glass (in original size) on a white tabletop against a light background at regular intervals.
• “Day after Day, Good Day” thus manifests a unique perspective in contemporary painting, in which simplicity, repetition, and everyday life are at the forefront.
• Other paintings from this important series of works can be found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Frankfurt am Main, and the Staatliche Kunsthalle, Karlsruhe, among others.
PROVENANCE: Private collection, Baden-Württemberg.
In good condition. Small areas of rubbing along the edges of the image. Small areas of paint loss at the bottom edge of the image. The condition report was prepared in daylight and with the aid of a UV light source to the best of our knowledge and belief.
