Two sheets numbered and stamped on the reverse with the estate stamp and signature of Peter Beckmann (Lugt L.4414). One sheet signed and dated in the stone. On wove paper (1) and Japan paper (2). Sheet up to 40.5 x 32 cm (15.9 x 12.5 in).
The 1916 print “Der Abend” (The Evening), including the photolithographic facsimile edition of Max Beckmann's “Ebbi. Eine Komödie” (Ebbi. A Comedy) (Edition A2, Copy XXIII). [AR].

PROVENANCE: Private collection Günther Förg.

LITERATURE: James Hofmaier, Max Beckmann. Catalogue raisonné of his prints, vols. 1 and 2, Bern 1990, CR no. 76 VII C (Bildnis des verwundeten Schwagers Martin Tube, 1914), 90 III A (Der Abend (Selbstbildnis mit den Battenbergs), 1916, postumous edition from 1973, "Ebbi. Eine Komödie"), 311 IV C a (Globus und Muschel, 1927, postumous edition from 1966).

The two etchings are in good to very good condition. The facsimile edition of “Ebbi” is also in good to very good condition. The lithograph has a few small tears at the edges, some of which have been professionally repaired, as well as a few spots and creases.
