In verhaltenem Grau. Um 1960.
Tempera.
Signed and titled, as well as inscribed with the technique and the dimensions on a label on the back of the frame. On wove paper. 33.4 x 37.8 cm (13.1 x 14.8 in), the full sheet. [AW].

• Fascinating illusion of three-dimensionality and movement through the subtle play of gray, green, and black nuances.
• The radical nature of Girke's artistic work is based on the renunciation of any motifs and the consistent development of painting as a visual experience.
• Girke's works featured in the 2024 exhibition "Nicht viel zu sehen – Wege der Abstraktion 1920 bis heute" at the Von der Heydt Museum in Wuppertal, the MKM Museum Kuppersmühle in Duisburg honored him with a major retrospective in 2022.
.
