• This dramatic title woodcut symbolizes the new artistic freedom after World War II.
• Immediately after the end of the war, Heckel initiated an exhibition dedicated to ostracized artists—a bold signal for a new beginning.
• With the exception of the annual prints, this is Heckel's first woodcut after 1933.
