Kinder auf der Bank. 1910.
Woodcut.
Ebner/Gabelmann 421 H. Dube H 191. Signed, dated and titled "Zwei Kinder". Monogrammed "H" in printing block. Presumably one of to date 18 known copies. On firm creme paper. 18.7 x 26 cm (7.3 x 10.2 in). Sheet: 26,5 x 56 cm (10,4 x 22,1 in).
[JS].
• From the best of the "Brücke" era.
• The work shows Fräzi Fehrmann, the most important model and muse of the "Brücke" artists since 1909, along with her brother Peter.
• The scene of the two children sitting on the sofa in the Dresden studio is also documented by a photo by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner from 1910.
• In 1910, Heckel also painted the today lost painting "Sitzende Kinder" based on this famous motif (cf. Hünecke 1910-8).
• Strong, high-contrast woodcut on an extraordinarily elongated paper format.
• Rarey. So far only 3 other prints of this woodcut have been offered on the international auction market (source: www.artprice.com).
• Further prints can be found in the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung, Munich, in the Museum Folkwang, Essen, and in the Brücke Museum, Berlin
.

PROVENANCE: Private collection Baden-Württemberg (since 1963, ever since family-owned).

In good condition. Edges irregular, especially the bottom edge. With slight mount staining, evenly discolored, more obvious in mount section. Broad margin with isolated foldings and color stains from printing. With isolated slight handling marks in margins. Corners partly crimped and with slight kinks.
For information concerning the condition, please view the high resolution image / backside image.
