Sigmar Polke Sigmar Polke - Biography

The multi-faceted and trend-setting artist Sigmar Polke cannot be missed when it comes to the biggest names of German art history in the 20th and 21st century.
Sigmar Polke's subversive and cryptically humorous art cannot be clearly assigned to any epochal classification. As founding member of "Capitalistic Realism", an ironic and political variant of Pop Art, Sigmar Polke found his position in the context of a new figurative art as early as in the 1960s. Ever since Sigmar Polke has been creating his artistic reality in ever new experimental techniques that he sometimes combined in form of collages. In doing so, he attains a combination the fantastic with the realistic, of intellectual aspects with trivial ones. Sigmar Polke gained particular recognition through his "Rasterbilder", which simulate the half tone picture elements, however, he did not disperse given motifs in the style of Roy Lichtenstein, he brought out an entirely new image reality.
Works by Sigmar Polke can be viewed in numerous renowned international museums.
