Marino Marini Marino Marini - Biography

The Italian Marino Marini counts among the most influential and most prominent figures of post-war avant-garde sculpting, additionally, he also created innovative prints and paintings.
Recurring topics dominate the plastic oeuvre of Marino Marini: dancers, acrobats, nudes, Pomona figures and portraits were replaced by the all-dominant motif of "horse and rider". By means of an archaic abstracting simplification of forms Marino Marini attained suspenseful compositions. The graphic sheets, cycles and paintings by Marino Marini, with their reduced cubist forms and their extremely powerful coloring it is particularly those made in the 1960s and 1970s that mark the peak of Marino Marini's artistic creation.
The much-praised regular documenta participant Marino Marini is honored with not less than three own museums: The Marino Marini museums in Milan and Florence and the Centro di Documentatione dell'Opera di Marino Marini in his native town of Pistoia.
