Jean Arp (Hans Arp), the great Dada and Surrealism all-rounder, is regarded the main representative of a biomorph abstraction.
Being famous as a painter, sculptor, graphic artist and poet, Jean Arp (Hans Arp), who had already played a decisive role in Zurich, Cologne and Parisian Dadaism, attained an innovative combination of abstraction and Surrealism. His rounded biomorph abstract forms, which subtly play with surreal figurative associations, had significant impact on the development of art. His characteristic style had gained world-wide acknowledgement as early as in the 1950s. The artist then received official commissions for large sculptures in public space, for instance, he created the well-known sculpture in front of the UNESCO headquarters.
