• Rolf Cavael was a founding member of the group ZEN 49, which drew on the artistic positions deemed 'degenerate' during the Third Reich, for example, those of the 'Blauer Reiter'.
• The work clearly shows the influence of Kandinsky, whom Cavael met at the Bauhaus in Dessau in 1930 and who became an important source of inspiration for him.
