• In 1960, Alex Katz portrayed his wife Ada in six different poses in a black dress in the painting “The Black Dress” (Museum Brandhorst, Munich).
• The 2018 edition “Black Dress Cut-outs” is a refinement of this iconic motif.
• Some of the artist's large-format metal cut-outs can be found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum, New York, and the National Portrait Gallery, London.
• Most recently, Alex Katz was honored with major solo exhibitions at, among others, the Museum of Modern Art, New York (2024) and the Guggenheim Museum, New York (2022/23).
