Heinrich Zille Heinrich Zille - Biography
Heinrich Zille, the artistic chronicler of the Berlin Wilhelminiam milieu, still counts among the most popular graphic artists of the 20th century.
In his extremely popular prints, drawings and photographs Heinrich Zille intensively examines the life of marginal social groups, to which he felt close due to his own biography, as Heinrich Zille's father was imprisoned for many years, his mother barely managed to make ends meet for the family. Heinrich Zille captured his at times satirical and at times smirking peek into the Berlin backyards in countless drawings for portfolios, books and magazines such as the "Lustige Blätter" [Funny Sheets] and the "Simplicissimus". Heinrich Zille, among his patrons was Max Liebermann, joined the Berlin Secession in 1903 and was accepted into the Prussian Academy of Art in 1924.
The Berlin Zille-Museum honors Heinrich Zille with a permanent exhibition.
