Hanne Darboven Hanne Darboven - Biography
Hanne Darboven counts among the most important representatives of Concept Art. It particularly was the fruitful contact with the protagonists of Minimal Art in New York in the 1960s, where Hanne Darboven attained a style that would shape her work henceforth. Among the most striking characteristic features of her oeuvre was the ennoblement of writing to the rank of a form of art. It is not only the physical effort that Hanne Darboven put into her work, an almost ritualized record of an unbelievable large amount of numbers and characters, which is so impressive, but also the work's tremendous aesthetic potential, into which the observer seems to immerse. She created thousands and thousands of sheets filled with series of numbers, characters and letters, which are rarely increased with images. Numerous awardy and honors, among others, the Edwin-Scharff-Prize, large retrospectives and multiple participation in the documenta are proof of Hanne Darboven's artistic rank.
