Günther Förg Günther Förg - Biography
The graphic artist, painter, photographer and sculptor Günther Förg counts among the most important representatives of contemporary art in Germany.
The photographic oeuvre of Günther Förg, which has a focus on large-format architectural motifs, refreshes the cool and clear Bauhaus aesthetic, whereas the three-dimensional works reflect the non-representationalness of concrete art. In the geometrical abstract graphic works and paintings by Günther Förg color finally comes into its own: The energetic effect of the coloring in quivering color field compositions or the color spots- and grids are ranked first. In these works Günther Förg also plays a subtle game with figurative associations.
Günther Förg, who was among the participants of the documenta IX and who teaches at the Art Academy in Munich, has already been honored with numerous national and international exhibitions. In spring 2010 the large show "Aufbruch der Farben" in Bad Homburg presents latest works on paper.
Günter Förg died in Freiburg on December 5, 2013.
