The visionary Austrian painter, graphic artist, commercial artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser (actually Friedrich Stowasser) is regarded one of the last century's most popular international artist, which is largely due to his works' highly decorative qualities.
In his famous paintings and prints, which can be located somewhere between ornamental abstraction and figuration, Friedensreich Hundertwasser worked up inspirations of Vienna Art Nouveau. His works are often based on labyrinth- or spiral-like structures. An appealing coloring, mostly based on shades of red, green and blue, often interspersed with gold, creates a splendid and dazzling effect. As a clear anti-rationalistic architect it was the intention of the ecologically committed Friedensreich Hundertwasser to create harmony between art and life.
Today the Museum Hundertwasser in the KUNST HAUS WIEN shows a cross-section of Friedensreich Hundertwasser's comprehensive oeuvre.
