Félix Vallotton
Félix Vallotton counts among the most important representatives of the art of Symbolism. Born in Lausanne, Félix Vallotton went to Paris as an adolescent. There he studied at the Académie Julian and soon came in contact with local artist circles before he joined the group "Nabis". In term of style, the paintings and graphic works by Félix Vallotton are close to both Symbolism as well as the artistic concept of "Nabis", as they strive not to be mere effigies but to track down and depict spiritual depths. Félix Vallotton possessed mastery in uniting a delicate coloring, a soft line management and an atmospheric arrangement of light in his paintings. The comprehensive oeuvre of paintings is completed by a subtle oeuvre of graphic works with a focus on woodcuts. Large exhibitions, among others, in the Kunsthalle of the Hypo-Kulturstiftung in Munich and the Hamburg Kunsthalle, honored the oeuvre of Félix Vallotton.
