Ernst Fuchs Ernst Fuchs - Biography
Ernst Fuchs counts among the internationally most relevant representatives of post-war Surrealism.
In 1948 Ernst Fuchs turned against the dominant abstraction in those days with the formation of the "Vienna School of Fantastisc Realism" and thus established a new and fanstastic form of art. In painting, graphic art, sculpting, interior design and product design, works in the characteristic style of Ernst Fuchs have been made. But not only Surrealism and Magic Realism left their traces behind in these works, but also notions of the art of old masters such as Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel can be observed. Visionary, mystic and dream-like topics in a strong coloring and with a love for the detail that calls reminiscence of the techniques of the Old Masters characterize the oeuvre.
Ernst Fuchs, who was a very close friend of Salvador DalĂ, gained world-wide recognition with his art. International exhibitions, such as a travelling exhibition in Japan from 1991 to 1993 or a retrospective in St. Petersburg in 1993 are proof of the importance of Ernst Fuchs, whose works can also be viewed in the permanent exhibition of the "Fuchs-Villa" in Vienna.
