Emil Maetzel - painter, graphic artist and architect - counts among the most important artist personalities of the 20th century. As far as architecture is concerned, Emil Maetzel is a representative of the functional "Modern Architecture". Just as modern are paintings and graphic works by Emil Maetzel, who counts among the protagonists of the "Hamburgische Sezession" [Hamburg Secession], which he had founded together with his wife Dorothea Maetzel-Johannsen. With notions of Expressionim and African art, Emil Maetzel created paintings, woodcuts, etchings, watercolors and drawings that show man as their preferred subject.
