Conrad Felixmüller Conrad Felixmüller - Biography
The painter and graphic artist Conrad Felixmüller (actually Conrad Felix Müller) counts among the most important avant-garde artists of the second generation of German expressionists and an expressive New Objectivity.
All facets and sensitivities of man were always in the center of Conrad Felixmüller's work. With a strong expressive and elevated emphasis in the early phase, the artist's approach became calmer and more composed in the 1920s. Besides painting, graphic art occupies a prominent role in Conrad Felixmüller's oeuvre; woodcut, lithography, etching and drawing count among his preferred techniques. The national Socialists regarded the expressionist as a "degenerate artist" and destroyed 151 of his works. After the war Conrad Felixmüller was appointed professor by the Halle university.
Renowned international museums exhibit works by Conrad Felixmüller, among them the Sprengel Museum Hanover, the Munich Lenbachhaus, the National Gallery of Canada and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
