Wolf Vostell Wolf Vostell - Biography
Wolf Vostell counts among the most outstanding German artist personalities. After training as a lithographer and art studies in Wuppertal and Paris, his relatedness to print art should leave its traces throughout Wolf Vostell's oeuvre. Among his most important artistic creations is the technique called "Décollage", in which works of art are created with newly arranged shreds of posters that have been torn from the wall. Thus Wolf Vostell can, on the one hand, be ascribed to the surroundings of "Nouveau Réalisme", which frequently made use of the "Décollage". On the other hand Wolf Vostell was largely occupied with the foundation and establishment of "Fluxus", whose increasing importance as an innovative social system he accompanied with actions, happenings and the theoretic reflection of its contents.
Numerous great exhibitions are proof of Wolf Vostell's artistic rank, as well as the participation in Biennale in Venice and in the documenta in Kassel. The artist, who died in 1998, was awarded Hannah-Höch-Prize for his versatile oeuvre, which can be admired in the Leverkusen Museum Morsbroich and the Museo Vostell Malpartida in all its aspects.
