Pierre Alechinsky Pierre Alechinsky - Biography
Pierre Alechinsky counts among the leading representatives of abstract art in the second half of the 2oth century. A member of the influential artist's group CoBrA, Pierre Alechinsky could bring his artistic powers to full effect in this extremely fruitful and inspiring environment. Since the 1950s he made works with expressive color- and form relinquishings. Despite the painting's clear openness of forms, notions of figuration, which call reminiscence of phantoms can still be observed. They give insight into a world beyond our reality to which the artists of the Informel opened doors by means of their genesis that followed the surrealist automatisms.
Several participations in the documenta as well as numerous retrospectives, among others, in the Kestner-Gesellschaft Hanover and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York are proof of Pierre Alechinsky's artistic rank.
