Piero Dorazio Piero Dorazio - Biography
The Roman Piero Dorazio is regarded one of the key figures of abstract art in Italy.
The co-founder of the group "Forma I", which took a stand for abstraction as of 1947, studied painting in Paris after he had studied architecture. In Paris he came into contact with the post-war avant-garde. Piero Dorazio's characteristic style, which continued concrete and constructivist ideas, is based on the pure geometric form. Surfaces, stripes or swung lines in clear and lucent colors are combined in the highly aesthetic oeuvre of Piero Dorazio in an ornamental and elegant manner. Besides paintings and collages, he was particularly dedicated to graphic art.
Piero Dorazio, who was also active as a journalist and curator, also taught at the Graduate School of Fine Arts in Pennsylvania in the 1960s. He showed works on both the documenta as well as the Biennale. His works can be found in renowned international collections.
