Paul Cézanne Paul Cézanne - Biography

Paul Cézanne doubtlessly counts among the most important French painters of the 19th and 20th century. His merit of having paved the path for modern art is largely based on works originating from his later period of creation. Characteristic of these paintings by Paul Cézanne is a clear and organized composition, he applied the paint to the canvas in a special manner that emphasized the individual stroke of the brush. To him bright colors were an important element of composition. Thus he created the unique landscapes, still lifes and portraits that became icons of Impressionism and post-impressionism subsequently. His artistic oeuvre is completed by a large amount of graphic works, for instance elegant drawings and delicate watercolors.
Works by Paul Cézanne can be found in the world's most renowned collections, such as the Musée d'Orsay in Paris or the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which delivers clear proof of their outstanding artistic rank.
