Lesser Ury Lesser Ury - Biography
Lesser Ury counts among the most important painters and graphic artists of the late 19th and early 20th century in Germany. Educated at the academies in Düsseldorf and Brussels, Lesser Ury soon found his own style that was only slightly following Impressionism. Even though he was basically close to impressionist tendencies that captured sensations of nature, his artistic solutions, which found expression in oil, pastels, watercolors or gouaches, speak their own language with their atmospheric concentration, their often gloomy lights and their melancholy. The artist possessed great poise in depicting, for instance, the shimmering wet streets with the light reflections and the humid air in a city after a thunderstorm. The landscape watercolors, which render homage to nature in their soft colors, are rather delicate. His portraits are psychologically subtle character studies.
Lesser Ury's works have been in the focus of numerous exhibitions and can be found in renowned collections, such as the Museum Georg Schäfer in Schweinfurt.
