K.R.H. (d.i. Kurt R. Hoffmann) Sonderborg K.R.H. (d.i. Kurt R. Hoffmann) Sonderborg - Biography
The German-Danish painter, graphic artist and drawer K. R. H. Sonderborg (actually Kurt Rudolf Hoffmann), who had named himself after his Danish native town, counts among the most renowned artists of the Informel.
The trained merchant K. R. H. Sonderborg, who studied art at the 'Landeskunstschule Hamburg' after World War II, soon developed his very own style. His informal, gestic-expressive abstractions, spontaneously and rhythmically flung to the canvas, are dominated by a clear black and white contrast, varied by just a few added colors. Asian calligraphy and French Tachism had a particular influence on the abstract art of K. R. H. Sonderborg.
Works by K. R. H. Sonderborg are in possession of many public collections today, such as the 'Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst' in Leipzig, the 'Karl Ernst Osthaus-Museum' in Hagen, the 'Kunstmuseum Stuttgart', the 'Museum Folkwang' in Essen and the Schleswig-Holstein State Museum.
