Julius Bissier Julius Bissier - Biography
Julius Bissier counts among the most important German artists of the 20th century. The most striking feature of the art of Julius Bissier is its permanent potential for renewal, which can be observed at all levels of his style. While the early work of Julius Bissier, which was tragically destroyed by a fire in his studio in 1934 - still showed figurative notions of the style of the verist New Objectivity, however, he then abandoned figuration in favor of a more abstract style that showed strong notions of Asian calligraphic India ink drawings. This work complex occupied a large part of the middle of his artistic creation. But yet, Bissier even managed to develop from the reduced forms and colors of this style even more by leaving more room for colors as well as the spontaneous act of painting itself, thus he became an important source of inspiration for informal painting. The impressive works by the multiple documenta participant Julius Bissier are in possession of renowned collections today.
