Gerd Winner

Gerd Winner counts among the most important German artists of the 20th and 21st century. Like hardly any other artist, Gerd Winner possessed mastery in expressing himself in various artistic disciplines, he was a talented graphic artist, painter, sculptor and even object artist. His works are shown, on the one hand, in museums, among others, in the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, the London Victoria and Albert Museum or the Sprengel Museum Hanover. On the other hand, works by Gerd Winner also leave behind an extraordinary impression with observers in public spaces, for instance the "Haus der Stille" (1997-2000) in the former concentration camp Bergen-Belsen. In this terrible place, it motivates the visitor to contemplate. On the opposite, his urban installation "City Light Motion" (1989), mixed media on acrylic plates mounted in a Cologne subway station, is an eloquent allegory of mobility in our days.
