Antonio Saura
It is quite remarkable that the comprehensive oeuvre of Antonio Saura is made solely on the basis of an auto-didactic artistic training. The early period of Antonio Saura's artistic creation shows an examination of Surrealism, from which the young artist developed an own biomorph-abstract style. The famous "imaginäre Porträts" [Imaginary Portraits], which were made as of the late 1950s, are, on contrary, cubistically distorted paintings. Throughout his life, man was in the focus of Antonio Saura's art, in form of portraits, nudes or indirectly in form of the so-called maniples. In the course of his oeuvre, the palette became more colorful and the artist increasingly turned to graphic art, making, for instance silkscreens, lithographs and etchings of an exuberant, fascinating and encrypted imagery.
