A. Paul Weber (actually Andreas Paul Weber) is regarded a renowned graphic artist, illustrator and time-critical modernist caricaturist.
His oeuvre, particularly comprising lithographs and hand drawings, ranges from open sketches to large sheets with rich details. The early work calls reminiscence of the humorous prints by Wilhelm Busch; later, however, his critical tone became sharper. The ideological tendency of A. Paul Weber is ambivalent: On the one hand he rejected National Socialism, was active as illustrator for the magazine "Widerstand" [Resistance] and was imprisoned by the regime for these activities. On the other hand he created anti-Semitic caricatures, as he was close to the völkish movement. As far as topics were concerned, A. Paul Weber was particularly committed to political and contemporary subjects, additionally, he was active as a book illustrator.
